A naive viewer might say that the central concept of the movie Khushi is story of a girl and her love story, but according to me it is not completely true.
The story has a lot more than just a love story. For instance, consider the scene where the lead characters meet each other for the first time as grown ups. According to me the scene has a lot more than just the first meet. It starts with a physically challenged girl lighting a lamp in the temple. The scene is about the happiness she experiences in doing so. Then both the lead characters, who were watching her lighting the lamp, feel good she succeeds in doing that holy task. The scene is about the happiness both of them experience in that scene. After just a few seconds, wind starts to blow and the flame of the lamp starts to flicker. Both of the lead characters run to the lamp to protect it from the wind and they put their hands around it together. The flame is still alive. The scene is about the happiness they experience from saving the flame. And finally this is the first time when the lead actors look in to each other's eyes for the first time. They are happy to see someone who, too, cares about the thing they care for. The scene is about the happiness experienced as a result of finding such a person.
Generally, it is hard to imagine such a small scene with this much happiness in it. But, the director has successfully showed it in the scene.
So, as I was saying, the movie is not just about the girl named Khushi but it is about the "Happiness" in general.
Director has successfully presented the happiness hidden in the smaller things in everyday life during the course of the movie. Now it's up to the viewer how much he/she can see it.
